1957 - 1968

"I've gone to fly with the bluebirds in the sky ..."

Cindy lived in Cheshire, U.K. and is one of Marsh's most cherished childhood memories.

My name is Cindy, often remembered as 'Poor Old Cindy' because I was a little tragic.  It was 1957 when I arrived at my new home, my new owners discovered I had a crippled paw that they didn't notice when they came to fetch me, and I was afraid that they would send me back to change me for another, but they didn't... I was so pleased, because it was a lovely new married couple, and the lovely lady decided to have a baby, and I wanted this little friend they were going to have.  Then to my surprise, two more came along in the next few years, one of which would love me above all others, and his name is Marsh.  I was a nervous little dog, and he was a nervous little child and so he needed a special friend, so we loved each other.  He had delicate health as a small child, and I had a poorly heart which troubled me from time to time, and so we helped one another.  I gave all my best to this little boy, so that he would never forget me when he grew up, and whenever he would see a Cairn or a Westie, he would think of me and smile.  My favourite day was Sunday when my family would buy a huge bag of bluebird toffees which were my favourite, and they would all sit watching television and put the bag of toffees on the hearth so that I could help myself to one whenever I felt like it.  I used to remove the wrapper first, and then place it between my paws, and lick and lick until it was all gone.  I found this much better than chewing because they would last longer.  It was 1968 and I had lived eleven long years of love and happiness, and my poor old heart was getting tired, and Marsh was old enough to cope without me, knowing that he would never forget me, it was time for me to go, and fly with those bluebirds up in the sky....
