Skylar and Zack
are nine year old Golden Retrievers born in the same litter in December 1992. Skylar
captured the Carnes household at the age of six weeks and Zack came to
help her control the situation 18 months later.
Skylar is female and is the athlete of the family. At every
opportunity, she orders one of the human family members to throw the tennis
ball to her. (It's her favorite thing). Skylar is very well mannered
and lets her human family members show their friends what a well trained dog
she is. She is nice enough to Zack to let him think he is the Alpha Dog
(although she will take her tennis ball away from him if he has the nerve to
pick it up). Skylar is VERY exuberant around other humans
and loves attention from anyone. Her favorite things are her tennis ball,
people, going for walks, riding in the car, playing "Find the Ball",
nylabones, and food.
Zack is the man of the family and assumes the role of family guard and
Alpha Dog (when Skylar allows him to). He is much more laid back than Skylar
and could care less about using up valuable energy just to chase a silly
tennis ball. However, he will lay in the grass and watch Skylar chase
the ball all day long. He spends most of his time trying to keep Skylar
in line (usually successfully, but sometimes not). His favorite things are
going for walks, riding in the car, his football, nylabone, ice cubes, and of
course food. Zack also likes to play "Find the Ball", just
not as much as Skylar.
Both dogs are very loving and devoted to their human family members. They will
offer to help with any chores to be done around the house. Skylar loves
to help Peggy clean the dinner table and load the dishwasher. Zack will
help Bill mow the grass and do any cleanup work around the yard. He is lots of
help when Bill messes up the back yard by removing fallen limbs. He will
immediately take the limb in his mouth and promptly return it to the yard
where it belongs.
Skylar and Zack starred in two newspaper ads in October, 1996. The ads were
for their groomer and ran in two local newspapers. Their Mom and Dad are very
proud of them.
